Big Sur 5K - 2011

Staci and I did the Big Sur 5K again for the second year in a row. This is one amazing race! This year it was a little warmer so early in the morning! The weather was great, you really couldn't ask for it to be better! The run went great and we improved our time by 5 min. over last years run. We were happy with the results! It is really one of the most beautiful places here on earth and it is a blessing to run around through it! : )

Sky High San Jose

Sky High in San Jose is an amazing place. It is a kids dream come true, even when you are in your 30's! : ) It is a warehouse filled with these huge tramlines on the ground and on the walls, a foam pit and an area with tramlines that you bounce off of as you play dodge ball! Also video games and a snack bar, can't forget those! We went for my friend Lisa's birthday and we all agree we want to go back!

Tea Party - April 29, 2011

Some friends we got together to do an English Tea on the day of the royal wedding - April 29, 2011. It was so fun and nice to go through that history and historical day together. We loved watching the reviews of the day, hearing and seeing about her gown and all those "hats"! : ) I will remember where I was that day of the wedding of Prince William and Kate and the wonderful friends I was with! And it brought back memories of traveling to dear England!

Had a great Easter 2011 with family in town! We explored Santa Cruz, San Jose and Half Moon Bay a bit during the week they were here! In Half Moon Bay we even ran into a "royal couple" ; ) Was a great holiday!

I have been home now for about a week from Belize and I miss it! I miss hearing the ocean meet the shore when I go to bed and when I wake up, the quiet peaceful mornings, hearing boats come up to the dock and wondering who just got here! I miss the relaxing feel and the wonderful people that work at YWAM Destination Paradise - Belize!

I love traveling to places I have never been before! Love seeing and doing things in this life that I will always remember! So . . . this March I get to go visit a good friend and old co-worker who is working with YWAM down in Central America at a YWAM base in Belize! I am so excited to go and see this part of the world and visit and explore parts of this country with someone there I know! As it gets closer or on the return, I will be able to share more about activities we will do or have done! We will mainly be on the island of Ambergris Caye in Belize. Happy travels await!

Hearst Castle Trip, Cambria and HWY 1

Just this past Sunday - Tuesday I was down further on the California Central Coast in the Cambria area with a good old college friend. We explored, visited Heart Castle, ate, shopped, walked and just had a nice relaxing time in a beautiful area.

Hearst Castle was amazing and we had a great tour guide who made it even more fun! We made it as far south as Morro Bay, but the rock was all fogged in, so we didn't get to see the famous Morro Bay rock, but oh well! We had great fish and chips and taffy as well! Then I had a wonderful curvy drive home north on HWY 1 with the ocean as my view most of the way. Some of the time I was up above the fog, like flying, was very cool!

Utah - VBC

Well Utah wasn't on the plans for this summer! : )

Soon after I got back from my trip to Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, I was asked if I would join our second mission trip that was going to Utah cause they needed more people to help. It was easy for me to just change a few appointments around and then they got me a plane ticket and I was good to go!

We did have a great time with the kids and the VBC program there, I did small group with some of the kids and ran the sound board, yes the sound board! . . . I have never done that before, so it was a new experience but had to be done. The church in Utah was hurting and going through things in their body of believers so it was good to be there and help where and when we could. The kids were the best! We hope to send more teams there in the future! Here are just two of my favorites while we were there! : )

Road Trip - July 2010 - Pacific Northwest

About a week ago I got back from a beautiful road trip up to the Pacific Northwest to visit family and friends and just to have some time away to relax, get out of the norm! It was great, came back feeling refreshed and reminding myself that I DO have to get away every now and then and to not forget and to not put too much space between vacations, have to look out for yourself! : ) A good balance, and sometimes that is hard. Here are a few shots from the trip!

This trip to Boise was to mainly hang with all the babies! And college friends too : ) It was a great time and I loved the blessings of all the little ones! I miss them already!

Big Sur 5K

I did a 5K for the first time in a loooooong time about 2 weeks ago! It was a blast and who won't want to run in the Big Sur area, it is BEAUTIFUL!!! I was in cross country and track and field during high school and loved it, but man once you start it again you realize now how looooong ago that really was! : ) I hope to keep up a bit more running here and there now and especially as the summer months come and I am thankful to live in an area of the country that has amazing places to run and good weather to run in most of the year!

Hiking Henry Cowell State Park

Hiking today in Henry Cowell State Park was amazing! This was my first time there and I totally want to go back! Who knew! It was right in Felton and I had never gone! Makes me want to get an CA State Park Annual Pass and go to all state parks! We had beautiful weather and the day was great!

Last weekend my friend Claudia and I went up to Union City to try iFly. It is a wind tunnel where you can fly, imitate free falling like in sky diving. It was awesome! You get two flights as a first time flyer. The first one is just getting the right position to stay a float and then the second one the instructor takes you flying and spinning higher up in the tunnel. We loved it and totally want to go back!

Last weekend I flew out to Minnesota for my friend Kirsten's wedding with two other friends. We had a fun but cold long weekend away from Santa Cruz. It got to -15 below! And snow everywhere! : ) The wedding was beautiful as was Kirsten! We got to explore the Mall of America, which is huge!! And I went to the Aquarium that they have on their lower level along with a behind the scenes tour of the feeding of the animals. Then Allen, Julie and I had a nice dinner out for Julie's birthday on Sunday, along with a flaming dessert they call "the Alaskaian." Pretty cool!

Forever Grandma

Saturday, Dec. 5 a wonderful lady began her new life in heaven. My grandma Elna Rodgers lived an amazing life here with us all, she will be forever Grandma to me and many! It was a celebration of her life and she will be so missed too. It was a hard one for me as she was my last living grandparent and through the years, living the closest to her and being the only granddaughter, the one I was the closest to. Sad hard time but a celebration of life too, a life well lived!

month of May = Laura sick!

Okay I don't get sick that often but this year I got something and it stuck with me for the whole month of May! Still have a little bit right now, but nothing like before. It started as a common cold that later turned into a sinus infection and hard time breathing a little bit. After going to the doctor twice and finally getting antibiotics and two inhalers, and being on a lot of cold medicine and resting, I think the majority of it is done. But this also happened when the whole scare of the Swine Flu was going around and I had to keep telling people "No, it is not the swine flu." I realized that man I hate being sick!

Celebrating Mother's Day and 97 years of life!

It was great having my parents down this past week in California. Even though I was sick and try to get over this silly cold! We all got to celebrate Mother's Day together and myGrandma Rodgers 97th year of life! We all had a good time! We even had a pinyata filled with candy, lotto tickets and money! I got a $1 bill from it :), that all. Great family time!

Here are a few snap shots from this week in Romania! Yesturday we had a great time with some Romanian International Medical Students! We made lunch together, played games together and we showed them around the farm at Caminul Felix. Was a wonderful Saturday afternoon!

Friday night I also got to hang out with some of the teenagers from Caminul Felix. We took them out bowling and for pizza. I learned that in Romania when you go bowling, you don't have to wear those funny bowling shoes! We really had a good time!

Strawberries Everywhere!

Strawberries have always been my favorite berries! So when the Watsonville Strawberry Festival came up this weekend, I was there! I had heard of this festival before, but was never able to go until this summer! The food was so good! The Wats (what we call Watsonville in Santa Cruz) was pretty hot and sunny, so me not putting on sun screen pretty much looked like a strawberry at the end of the day too, my shoulders that is! :)

A bunch of us went to the Giants Game last Saturday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks . . . and the Diamondbacks won . . . . too bad but it was a good game! The Giants pitcher (who is like in his early 20's and making BIG bucks) got a career time high of 13 strike outs for that game. He is good! And then they took him out! Too bad!

Was a great night and we had fun exploring around the area of AT & T park and along the many different piers. It really is a beautiful city!

Advantages of living by the beach - great bonfires with friends on the beach which is in your back yard! We had a wonderful night! I got to spend some of the afternoon at the beach as well to save a fire pit and got a really God send of meeting some people from over the hill in San Jose who were also Christians and made the time spending there go a little quicker while I waited for other friends to arrive! It is always great and a surprise when God sends new friends and timly appointments your way!

I am up visiting Oregon for the fourth of July! Caught a ride up with some great friends from Santa Cruz and we got to see fireworks which is cool to us down here in Cali. since many many places in California aren't having or allowing firework shows because of how dry it is and all the fires already going on. Please pray for those that are giving their time and efforts to try to put out those many fires in our state.

(I met Steven Curtis Chapman in college and have grown up hearing his music, so this touched me deeply. Please pray as the accident also includes his teenage son as the driver. Hard family situation.)

Last night Maria Sue Chapman, adopted and youngest daughter of Mary Beth & Steven Curtis Chapman, was killed in a tragic accident in the family driveway. She was LifeFlighted to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital but for only reasons God can explain she went home to Him... not back to Franklin as we all so desperately wanted.

We are all humbled by the incredible outpouring of love and support at this difficult time. I have watched you, the Chapman friends, overwhelm website servers and jam phone lines with your gracious words and heartfelt prayers. The Chapman family is so grateful. Obviously, we cherish your prayers for all in the Chapman family, and we welcome you passing this along to others to pray and encouraging them to sign up for Steven's e-mail list to receive continuing updates.

Dominican Republic and Romania

Dear Friends and Family,

I pray and hope that the beginning months of this year have found you and yours blessed and happy!

Santa Cruz Bible Church is looking forward to where God is calling many in His body to serve this summer. I would love to share with you where I believe God is calling me this summer and fall. One of the trips taking place this July is in the Dominican Republic serving with Mercy Ships. We will be ministering in many ways (children's ministry, medical, office work, evangelism, construction and misc. help) at the Mercy Ships base in the Dominican Republic and surrounding communities. The cost to participate is $1650. As a team, we would like to have 50% of our support in by the end of April to secure the flight tickets.

Also as many of you know, I have had a heart for Romania and the children/teenagers of Caminul Felix, and organization committd to support and raise the abandoned and orphaned children of Romania. SCBC will again send a short term mission team to work along side Caminul Felix and its leadership the last two weeks of October 2008. It will be a joy to re-connect with many friendships that grew stronger over my two months stay at Caminul Felix last summer. I am blessed to help them develop some training matrial that God is going to use in other countries to begin similar organizations like Caminul Felix around the world! To see what God is going to do in the lives of children around this globe, is a gift! The cost to participate in the Romania mission is $2500.

As you think of me in your prayerss, I ask, and only if you feel led by the Lord, to please consider helping me out financially with these mission trips. Your prayers are the most important area of support I could use, but as we know it does take financial support to be involved. I need to raise $4150 in support to coer both of these missions If you feel led to support me financially, please send a check payable to Santa Cruz Bible Church with my name and the words "Dominican Republic and Romania" on the memo line - 440 Frederick Street Santa Cruz, CA 95062. Any amount you can give in support will be an amazing blessing and is tax deductible. The full finanical amount of contributions will go towards these missions.

Thanks for your prayers this week, this has been a hard week for all those that I work with. I learned of this song this morning on the radio and it just touched me today. This song can apply to where ever you happen to be living right now. I know it is true for our city of Santa Cruz! Please keep myself and the wonderful staff I work with here in your prayers. This is a hard week for us all as we are looking at another round of lay-offs. I will keep you posted. I know with myself and others, whoever it affects . . . . God has a direction ahead for us.

If you could also say a prayer for our church body as we have seen the prognosis of cancer come up alot lately in many ages.

Okay . . . . I watched the start of season 4 of LOST last night . . . . to me it was okay . . . . . . I guess I was expecting more . . . . . . . from all the ads they showed . . . . but it was still good . . . . more unanswered questions! Snow Trip - South Lake Tahoe 2008!

We just got back late Sunday night from our Young Adults Snow Trip in South Lake Tahoe! The area was beautiful and we got so much snow on Sunday! Everyone had a great time skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, sledding, making a snow man, hot tubing and just hanging out in great community! And the food! Wow! Thanks Bob and Jill for the amazing cooking!

The house we stayed at was such a blessing too! Thanks for your prayers that the weather would be okay for us to get home.

I am going for a visit to Boise this Thursday through Sunday to see and catch up with a lot of old college friends and I am so excited! This trip is totally past-due! Will be good to spend some time with friends that have know each other for quite a long time!
